Embracing Your Edgy and Intimate Sides During a Boudoir Photoshoot

Boudoir photography is all about celebrating the unique beauty of each person who steps in front of the camera. For those adorned with tattoos, it offers a wonderful opportunity to showcase the art that defines their personal story. But what if your personality balances both edgy and soft elements? The good news is that boudoir photography is versatile and can beautifully capture the duality of your character. Here’s how you can embrace both your edgy and soft sides during your tattoo boudoir photoshoot, highlighting your ink and celebrating the multifaceted person you are.

Your outfit choices can significantly impact the vibe of your photos. To balance your edgy and soft sides, consider mixing and matching different styles and fabrics:

• Lingerie: Opt for a combination of lace and leather. Lace pieces can highlight your softer, more romantic side, while leather, mesh or strappy lingerie can bring out your edgy, badass nature.
• Accessories: Incorporate accessories like chokers, cuffs, or delicate jewelry. Layering a leather jacket over a sheer, lacy bodysuit can create a cool, striking contrast. Adding sexy props like riding crops can add a super sexy element (scroll down to see a superrrr hot example)
• Footwear: Don’t underestimate the power of shoes. Stilettos can add an element of sophistication and elegance, while chunky boots can showcase a rebellious flair.

Consider the placement of your tattoos when picking lingerie for your tattoo boudoir photoshoot. For example, this open back lingerie set that the beautiful Jess brought highlights her bum and leg tattoos perfectly. If you have a sternum or stomach tattoo, a 2 piece lingerie set would frame that very well.

Posing plays a pivotal role in expressing the dual facets of your personality. Mixing up the poses is important to give variety; we will incorporate powerful, hard edge shapes and confident gazes but also gentle, relaxed and graceful poses to convey vulnerability and intimacy.

We will use different backdrops, both light and dark. My studio has 2 different vibes; one side is soft and bright while the other is dark and moody. This allows for a ton of variety! I also love playing with different lighting, including coloured lights (we added a hint of red light to this session).

To cap off this shoot we added a very soft feminine look with 2 pieces from my client closet: a beautiful dusty rose bodysuit and a glamorous champagne coloured robe with ruffles. What a contrast it created with all of her beautiful ink. I am so in love with how this whole shoot turned out.
